Former Bond Timothy Dalton is "shocked": Clear words about the deal with Amazon

Another ex-007 has commented on the creative reorientation of the Bond universe: Timothy Dalton has one main concern.

After Daniel Craig (56), another ex-007 has spoken out about the creative change of power in the James Bond franchise. Timothy Dalton (78), who played the double-zero agent in the two films "The Living Daylights" and "License to Kill", found clear words in an interview with "Radio Times" : "I was very, very surprised and shocked," said the star about the departure of the producer duo Barbara Broccoli (64) and Michael G. Wilson (83).

Above all, he will miss Barbara Broccoli at 007's side: "Barbara is, in my opinion, a fabulous woman and a wonderful producer." In his opinion, she always steered the Bond franchise to the best of her knowledge and ability, just like her father Albert "Cubby" Broccoli (1909-1996).

Dalton had taken on the role of the famous spy under the leadership of the founder of the Bond films. In the interview, he raved about Albert Broccoli, saying: "He was a very powerful and strong anchor for the project. Nothing happened that he didn't want, and it's sad that he's no longer with us."

Is it all about money?

Although Wilson and Broccoli will continue to serve as co-owners, creative direction will now rest solely with Amazon. Dalton therefore hopes that the company will remain true to the principles of the long-running series: "I hope that Amazon will embrace this and give us the kind of film that has brought so much excitement and fun to so many people."

He apparently shares a concern that many fans of the previous films have now expressed. Amazon will of course "do its best to make a lot of money. So hopefully they make good films." At the same time, the star, who can currently be seen in the Paramount+ series "1923", is keeping his fingers crossed for the new decision-makers, he assures.

Daniel Craig had commented on the issue just one day after the news of the change of power. "My respect, admiration and love for Barbara and Michael remain constant and unwavering. I wish Michael a long, restful (and well-deserved) retirement. And whatever Barbara has planned, I know it will be spectacular and I hope I can be a part of it," the last 007 actor told Variety.
